ZoneVu FAQs
Answers to some of your most frequently asked questions.
What Makes ZoneVu Different
How is ZoneVu different from traditional geosteering software?
ZoneVu is not a desktop application that syncs files to the cloud — it is a 100% cloud-based centralized subsurface database and operations system. Live rig data is pulled and conditioned automatically via WITSML. Seismic interpretations, frac stages, and well surveys live in one system with automatic coordinate handling. Unlimited users across all disciplines are included. It replaces disconnected tools with one operational platform.
How does ZoneVu change Oil & Gas workflows?
ZoneVu is redefining how Oil & Gas teams operate. Most geosteering tools are built around a single workstation. ZoneVu is built around a shared cloud database — which means the geosteering interpretations your operations geologists and geosteering contractors are building are visible to the drilling engineer and company man in a real time view in geologic context, without anyone sending files. Geologic context is automatically built and ready for completions teams to execute on.
How ZoneVu Works
How does ZoneVu ensure the entire team is looking at the same data?
ZoneVu is always current. Always connected. Traditional software creates fragmentation: Different versions, broken integrations, delayed updates. ZoneVu eliminates that. Everyone works from the same system, with the same data, in real time.
How does a cloud-native platform reduce manual data management?
ZoneVu is an Ecosystem that works for you. Because ZoneVu is cloud-native, it can leverage modern technologies to reduce manual effort: Automatically connect to data sources, pull and organize data continuously, keep your system updated without user intervention.
What real-time data sources does ZoneVu connect to?
ZoneVu's RigStream™ connects directly to WITSML and EDR providers including Pason, Totco, DigiDrill, SuperiorQC, MagVAR, and others. Rig data is conditioned, depth-corrected, and updated automatically every two minutes.
How does ZoneVu handle 3D seismic?
ZoneVu was built to leverage your full suite of 3D seismic products — attribute volumes, inversions, fault surfaces, and more. Seismic traces update to the bit location automatically as drilling progresses. No more stretching and squeezing screenshots.
Can I continue my subsurface workflows without an internet connection?
Designed to Evolve; ZoneVu is built to take advantage of ongoing advancements in cloud technology. This includes a ZoneVu future that includes: Progressive web applications (PWA), offline-capable workflows, continued performance and usability improvements. Even without a connection, users will be able to: load data, interpret wells, continue work seamlessly.
How does a cloud-based system reduce my hardware and storage costs?
Scalable and Cost-Efficient. Cloud infrastructure that scales with you. Pay for what you use, expand storage as needed, avoid large upfront hardware investments. Cloud storage is a practical alternative to traditional server-based database systems.
Who Uses ZoneVu
Does ZoneVu work for geosteering contractors as well as operators?
Yes — ZoneVu is built for both. Operators and contractors work from the same live project through Live Shared Projects™. Contractors get the context they need without the operator having to export anything. Snapshot URLs let anyone on the team see exactly what you see, the moment you need them to see it.
Do you provide geosteering contractor services?
No — and that is intentional. ZoneVu is a software and data platform, not a competing service provider. We do not sell geosteering services. That means we never compete with your geosteering contractors, we support your preferred partners, and contractors can work inside your ZoneVusystem without conflict. ZoneVu is built to empower operators and contractors - not replace them.
Security and Infrastructure
How secure is ZoneVu's cloud infrastructure?
ZoneVu runs on Microsoft Azure enterprise cloud infrastructure — the same platform trusted by major banks, government agencies, and defense systems. The platform is SOC 2 compliant, encrypts all data in transit and at rest, supports private Azure storage, and includes automatic redundancy and backups. No on-site servers required. Your data stays yours.
What if the cloud goes down during a critical well?
Azure maintains a 99.9% uptime SLA — the same infrastructure running global banking and defense systems. ZoneVu is built to stay available when your well cannot wait.
Who can see our data?
Only who you authorize. ZoneVu uses role-based access controls — you set permissions at the user and project level. Your data is never accessed by anyone without your explicit request, and it is never shared with third parties.
Does ZoneVu meet our company’s IT security requirements?
ZoneVu is SOC 2 Type II certified — the independent audit standard for cloud security controls. We can provide documentation for your IT and compliance teams on request.
What happens to our data if we stop using ZoneVu?
Your data stays yours. Always. Users can pay a small annual storage fee to preserve their ZoneVu data and projects while not using it. ZoneVu uses no proprietary formats — you can export everything manually or use a python script to move data through ZoneVu’s REST API. No lock-in, no holdback, no exit fee.
Getting Started and Pricing
How easy is it to get started with ZoneVu?
Very easy. ZoneVu requires no hardware installation and runs in Chrome or Edge. A free trial is available, projects can be configured in minutes, and your data stays in your own Azure storage or a private Ubiterra sub-account. You can be steering within minutes, not weeks.
How quickly can we begin geosteering in ZoneVu?
Most new users can be steering in minutes. Projects are pre-configured at the database level, strat columns are standardized company-wide, and there is nothing to install. If you can open a browser, you are ready.
How is ZoneVu priced?
ZoneVu is a flat SaaS subscription — one price that covers your entire team with unlimited users, no per-seat fees, and no module add-ons. Operator and contractor bundles are available, sized to your operation. Pricing is designed so everyone who needs the data has access to it.
